Fraxis - Post Treatment Care
WHAT TO EXPECT:
The first 24 hours post treatment are usually the toughest to deal with as the skin has to adjust to the sudden ablation and immediate inflammation drawn to the affected area. The skin can appear darker from the jawline and redden considerably. Applying cool compresses to the skin can give some instant relief as well as an aloe vera gel. Once the sunburn sensation starts to die down within the first 24 to 48 hours the skin may transition into a dry and rough texture which signals the next phase of the Fraxis process. This can last anywhere between 3-5 days for most treatments but this also factors in different healing rates and strength of the procedure. This drying/flaking and reddening status of the skin can potentially last up to 2 weeks post treatment in some rare circumstances but this is all still completely normal and part of the process.
Sometimes due to how the laser catches the skin the treatment can vary in different areas of the face leading to what looks like an asymmetry in appearance and it can look stronger in some areas than others. This again is normal and the skin will clear up on its own during the recovery process. If this results in PIHP (Post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation) this can easily be treated with Hydroquinone 4% which is available with a prescription from a GP.
We also use a compounded numbing cream made by a Pharmacist for us that can be linked to Penicillin allergy/sensitivity. This can result in mild to severe swelling post treatment similar to a severe bee sting. If the skin is noticeably more swollen a few days post treatment and not showing signs of going down, please visit a General Practitioner who will most likely prescribe a topical steroid cream to reduce the swelling and everything will return to normal.
Micro dots from the treatment will eventually fall off and the colour should begin to shift back to normal with maybe some left over red areas which may take a little longer again depending on strength of the treatment. If makeup is to be worn, keep it minimal and mineral if possible to reduce how much cleansing is required to remove it. Always be very gentle with the skin. Continue to avoid active ingredient based skincare such as Retinol, AHA's and BHA's until the skin returns to normal and then you may continue your usual skincare routine and regular makeup application.
