Dry Skin Dramas

Hey there, fellow skin lovers! Jess here, your friendly local Dermal Clinician, ready to spill the tea on dry skin.

So, picture this: you're slathering on your daily moisturiser like you always do, but your skin still feels as parched as a desert. What gives? Don't worry, because I've got some juicy insights and tips to quench your skin's thirst.

First things first, let's talk moisturisers, shall we? We've got the soft and smooth crew (emollients), the hydration squad (humectants), and the protective posse (occlusives).

Emollients are like the smooth operators, think Jojoba oil and Ceramides. Humectants are the hydrating heroes, featuring Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin. Then, we've got the occlusives, the barrier builders, with classics like Petroleum Jelly and Shea Butter.

Now, onto the good stuff – why your skin might be feeling a little dry and deflated:

1. You’re using the wrong moisturiser

You might be going all in with a skin softener (emollient) or a barrier builder (occlusive) but skimping on the hydration (humectants). For the combo skin crew, I recommend a hydrating serum followed by a lightweight moisturiser. Dry skin people, start with that hydrating serum and seal the deal with a rich, occlusive moisturiser.
Solution: Pump up the hydration by adding a hydrating serum before your moisturiser. Mix it with a splash of water for that extra glow!

2. You’re low on essential fatty acids

Turns out, skimping on those essential fatty acids could be leaving your skin high and dry. Time to load up on salmon, chia seeds, and walnuts for that extra skin-loving goodness.
Solution: Get your fatty acid fix through your diet or consider supplements if you're not getting enough.

3. Blame it on the environment

Air conditioning, heaters, and hot showers – oh my! These culprits are sucking the moisture right out of your skin faster than you can say "moisturise me!"
Solution: Stay moisturised throughout the day, and after your steamy showers. Also, try to give those moisture-zapping devices a break when you can.

4. Soap, soap, soap – not so dope!

Ditching the soap might sound counterintuitive, but trust me, it's a game-changer. Too much soap can strip your skin of its natural moisture.
Solution: Opt for a soap-free body wash, and if your skin's really throwing a tantrum, go fragrance-free too.

There you have it, lovelies – the lowdown on dry skin! Remember, hydration is key, both inside and out. So, stock up of those fatty acids and slather on that moisturiser like there's no tomorrow. Your skin will thank you later! Cheers to happy, hydrated skin days ahead!
